Spice Up The Winter Blues With Hot Mexican Heat

Feeling blue? The cold and dark days of winter can put our minds and bodies in a funk as we scramble to make up for Seattle’s lack of Vitamin D. Those pesky winter colds are imminent and we’re all searching for a little tropical break. Beat your winter blues at Nana’s Mexican Kitchen & Cantina for spicy flavors and a vibrant atmosphere that will warm you up in no time!

This time of year it seems like everyone has the sniffles. Spicy foods are a natural decongestant that can clear up sinuses with just a few bites. Ingredients found in traditional Mexican cuisine such as chili peppers, onions and garlic can help ease sinus congestion by thinning out layers of mucus and decreasing inflammation, reducing the risk of infection. A University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center study found that an ingredient found in hot chili peppers may help clear up certain types of sinus inflammation. Hot foods that are known to make you shed a tear are a natural alternative to medication to treat that winter cold.

At Nana’s Mexican Kitchen, our menu provides plenty of spice to warm you up this winter. We’ll always ask how spicy you want your food first, so if you’re not a hot food fan, no problem! Here are a few of our hot recommendations:

  • Camaron del Diablo: Spicy hot shrimp with mixed peppers and mushrooms. Served with nopals salad.
  • Chile Relleno: Roasted poblano chilies stuffed with cheese, battered with an airy egg coating and friend. Topped with a spicy sauce and sour cream.
  • Pozole Sopa: Red spicy soup with chunks of pork and hominy. Served with a side of lettuce, onions and chile sauce.
  • Spicy Baja Omelet: Bacon, Pepper Jack cheese, green peppers, onions, red pepper flakes, guacamole and salsa.

Take a break from the cold this winter and join us for a mini vacation at Nana’s Mexican Kitchen in the heart of upper Queen Anne!
